Lengthiest time over?!

Hello;
Here goes another question on timelines that is asked by thousands of impatient immigrants! Please bare with us!
We were informed by an immigration officer at NSC that our I-130 petition was approved (2nd approval) just a few days ago - but has yet to be sent off to NVC and we have yet to receive our I-797 approval letter. We understand that the mailing office at NSC is 4 weeks behind!
We filed on July 4th, 2000 and received our first NOA on July 26th, 2000. So therefore have waited almost 7 months for our 2nd NOA. What we would like to know is if this is the longest period usually between the various stages of the I-130 petition? We are not DCF as we are both in Canada - my husband is the US citizen. We have been told by various sources that the I-130 usually takes around a full year - baring this in mind - we would like to assume that the lengthiest portion of the steps is over. But one should never assume!
We look forward to hearing from you in the near future and thank you for your time.

Dear S. Hawken:

The longest part of the process is over. You should receive the next package of papers from the NVC within about a month. After you send those off to the consul, you should get your final interview within 2-3 months. To get more precise times on processing at the consulate, give them a call. Good luck.
