Filling out application for naturalization

Immigration Links - Immigration Forum: Naturalization/Citizenship: Filling out application for naturalization
By Anonymous on Tuesday, August 6, 2002 - 06:04 pm:

When filling out the N-400 application for citizenship, in Part 7, it asks you to fill out all the times you have left the U.S. since becoming a permanent resident. The problem is that I've been back home for so many short trips (all for 2 weeks or less) that I no longer remember. My passport is no use for this as I had to get a new passport 4 years ago as the old one had expired. Does the INS expect you to be exact about the dates of travel? Does it matter if you're off by a couple of days?

I am a unmarried daughter of a us citizen, I have already recieved and approval notice from the INS, what I want to know is why can't I file the i-485 before my priority date is current.

I have a similiar problem. I have lived in Canada for some time after getting my green card. During this time, I visited US several time for one day and left. I don't have a record of it because I crossed the border by car and only showed the inspector my green card for visual inspection. Should I count this as multiple absences from US, each lasting less than six month? or one long absence? Thereafter, for a while, I commuted from Windsor, Canada to Detroit to work and also had an apartment in US. Almost every weekend I was in Canada. Should I count this as one long absence? What about the exact dates? It is impossible for to trake the dates now and there is no record of my travel? Any help is apprecited.

Dear Anonymous:

You should list all of your trips to the best of your ability. If you have numerous short trips, and you have no way to verify the information, you can submit an affidavit to INS explaining that fact and estimating the total time that you spent outside of the US during those trips. That will usually suffice. Good luck.

Parents have been in th US on visitor Visa. On the previous extension of stay, based on medical reasons, was asked for additional evidence. was given until begining of July to submit the evidence. The application was approved later, but only until April (already passed). I applied for another extension on the same grounds with letter from doctor that father could not travel. jiust received a denial letter saying that they were out of status at the time of filing the application, which is after April. But i was told that the request for adddtional evidence would take precedence, and that i didn't need to apply for another extension while that was being processed. He still is not able to travel. what are our options?

Our daughter has been married to a man from trinidad for 2 years in September. He has started having an affair with my daughters best friend. He also has started abusing drugs. His whole personality has changed. They are right now in the process of a divorce. She is 8 months pregnant with his child. She wants to withdraw from being his sponsor and we are all hopeful he will be deported. Is it possible for him to be deported for any of this and can she withdraw from being his sponsor. We all feel he used her to gain citizenship. thank you for any help you can give in this matter.

HELP! I have an interview for US citizenship naturalization next week in California. I have been a permanent resident for 20+ years. Two years ago, I got arrested for a DUI. It got pleaded down to misdemeanor reckless speeding. I am still serving my 3 year probation sentence. I just read somewhere that you cannot be naturalized if you are on probation. Should I postpone my interview? Please advise.

I am about to apply for US Citizenship, and meet all the requirements. However, I was arrested for underage consumption of alcohol when I was 18. In court my lawyer got me into pretrial diversion and having successfully completed the program, my record was expunged. I know the application for citizenship says you must list all offenses, even ones that were expunged, but I do not wish for this to hurt my chances for getting my citizenship. How seriously does this offence affect my chances of getting my citizenship? If it seriously effects it, should I risk not listing it on my application, or should I just come clean regardless? I have no other criminal offenses or otherwise, have been a permanent resident for ten years.

My wife stole something from a store and she got caught. It was a stupid thing and now she regrets that. We got a laywer and she got only a fine. Now she had her citizenship intreview and everyting was fine but they told her because of the stealing her application must be approved by a supervisor. Is there a chance that she can be denied the application?
Thank you.
Tim

My wife and I had a domestic issue which turned out to be a big ballon for no reason. To make a long story short I was arrested and after few months of court procedings, I agreed to complete the domestic violence course(which I did) and accepted the guilty plea.
Would this effect my chance of getting the green card. Curently my labor certification is approved and filing the I140 & I485.

Thanks,
mosin

I was stupid and I stole items from supermarket when I was 15 in my home country. I was arrested but I was not sent to court. The sr. officer in the police station cited me. It was a program in my home country. If any teenage who committed a crim before his/her 16th yrs old birthday, and never committed any crim since then, his/her record would be expunged on his/her 16th yrs old birthday. On the other word, I can claim I have no crimial record (as it is stated clearly in my home country police record).
I am 33 right now and it was 17 yrs ago I committed the crim. I have been a permanent resident for nearly 5 yrs and I am planning to apply my citizenship very soon.

Would this effect my chance of getting the citizenship??

PLS HELP. I am very regret of what I did but it is already done. SIGH.
