INS cannot issue any document that will replace your passport. However, since you are a permanent resident, INS can issue to you a document known as a re-entry permit that serves as a travel document and, in some ways, takes the place of your passport.
To apply for a re-entry permit, download immigration form I-131 and follow the instructions. Good luck.

i got married to my american wife in feb 1999 i got my (c)green card in may 2000 then my permenant residence in 2002 ,my wife died in march 2003 ,can i still apply for citizenship after 3 yrs? and if not ,is there any way i can get it sooner than may 2005??
the other question is about (the re-entry permit)does it allow me to enter other countries as a travel ducoment?? thanx
