Hi,
Dear Yanatar:
Hi,
Dear Yana:
please confirm if an asylum based LPR can apply for naturlization after 4 years instead of 5 ???
I am a green card holder through asylum status since December, 1999. When I can apply for the citizenship? The other question is that my mother in law still carries her asylum status and prepares for the interview for green card, when she can apply for the citizenship?
Thank You.
Yana

You and your mother can apply for naturalization 3 months before 5 years as a permanent resident. Your permanent resident date is the date on your permanent resident card. A person who holds only asylee status is not yet a permanent resident. Good luck.

Thank you for your response. My other question is - My mother is getting SSI and in her case will she continue to get it till she can apply for the citizenship or she can be terminated? She is 75.

If your mother obtained her permanent residence status as an asylee, then it makes no difference if she is receiving SSI. Good luck.
