Dear Anonymous:
Hi!
Dear Anna:
Hi, i am a Canadian/British citizen (dual nationality), living in the USA with my American boyfriend. I am 24 years old and am educated to degree level. I have previously worked in Sales for a Corporate company. I also have some experience working for a PR agency dealing with e-commerce companies. I really want to work in the advertising industry and wanted to know if there is any way i can legally work in the USA (as a Canadian)?
Dear Anonymous:
Hi. I'm a Filipino citizen, now in the United States under a tourist visa. My father (who is a permanent resident) filed an immigration petition last March. I called the INS and asked if I could work while waiting for my alien number, which they said would take around 18 months to two years to process, and they told me that I have to wait for it before I could legally work. I am 27 years old and have a degree in psychology and some teaching experience at the university level. I would like to know if there is any way I could work while waiting for my alien number.
Dear Roderick:

hi,
Dear Karl
I have recently met a girl at work who is married and living in the united states but came from the Ukraine. She has to renew her paperwork in august showing her and her husband are still together to be able to stay here. She has been having problems with him and is not sure if they will be able to make it work and she may end up back overseas. She is currently working here in the united states. Is there any other way for here to stay here.. work visa? Student visa? She is a physician in her country could she continue her education without being married and still be allowed to live here? What are the requirements for the work and student visa?
I have a Masters in Engineering .
I am Yugoslavian citizen with permanent residence in Italy since 10 years.I am running the business in Italy and have 4 employees.Recently I have decided to spread my business in USA and made the affilate company in USA.I applied for l1 visa and my petition has been approved in record times.I did it all through an immigration lawyer who guided me very well. Now the USA Consul in Italy makes problems on issuing me the visa.
For more than one year I've had a relationship with a French woman living in Montreal. She currently holds a "Permanent Resident" status there, and wishes to come to the US to live with me. I am a US citizen. If she visits me using her French passport and we marry at some point during her visit, can she change her status after the marriage and become a resident without having to return to Quebec? Is this a reasonable option to getting a K-1 or K-3 visa, or do I risk her having to leave the US until I file for one of the "K" visas?

In order to work in the US you must obtain permission from the Immigration and Naturalization Service. For your specific occupation, you will probably have to obtain a Labor Certification from the US Department of Labor before you could file for permission to work.
We would suggest that you contact an immigration law attorney who can go over all of your qualifications in detail and help you determine the best course of action for your specific situation. Good luck.

I wanted to ask if there is in USA any equivalent of Canadian Live in Care Giver Program (after 2 years of work on this position one can apply for residence status and obtain open employment authorisation)? Are there any programs for people from abroad who would like to work on such position (specifically as a nanny) in USA? Is there possibility to get a worker visa if I employment as nanny?
hope my questions are clear,
best, A.

The only similar program of which we are aware is the "au pair" program that allows individuals to work for families in the US. This will allow you employment, but will not lead directly to permanent residence. For more information on this program, go to this link: http://exchanges.state.gov/jvisa/Au%20Pair%20Exchange%20Program/aupair.htm
You could be sponsored as a nanny for permanent residence through an application for labor certification. This process can be quite complicated and will take many years. For more information contact an immigration law attorney who has experience in handling labor certification cases. Good luck.

It is possible that you can qualify for a Treaty National (TN) visa because you are a Canadian.
You should speak with an immigration law attorney to see if you have the equivalent of a bachelor's degree in one of the TN professions. If you do, then you would have an excellent chance to qualify for a visa to work in the US. Good luck.

Thank you very much.

You can only work if you obtain a change to some other status that allows you to work, such as an H-1B. Actually, to clarify the statement you received from INS, you will not be able to work until you apply for adjustment of status, which could take far more than 18 months.
Based upon your degree and experience, you appear eligible for an H-1B. We would suggest that you contact an immigration law attorney who may be able to assist you. Good luck.

The first thing you need to do is to review some general immigration publication to learn of the various types of visas and ways that you can qualify for them. We would suggest that you consider purchasing our Immigration Manual that describes many of the immigrant and non-immigrant visa categories.
You can purchase the manual by going to our Home page and clicking on the scrolling marquee. Good luck.

There are numerous ways to obtain temporary or permanent visas to enter and stay in the United States. However, to discuss all of the possibilities in some detail would require dozens of written pages and is beyond the scope of this Bulletin Board.
We would recommend that you consider purchasing our Immigration Law Manual. It discusses most of the more popular ways to obtain temporary or permanent visas to the US.
As to your specific question, you will first need to secure a job offer, and then file for a work permit with INS. When that is approved, you can begin employment in the US. Good luck.

Your cousin could sponsor you for labor certification, however, unless section 245(i) is extended, you will not be able to adjust status in the US.
For more on the labor certification process, please go to our Hints & Tips page. Good luck.

Based on the information you have provided, it appears that you will need to obtain an offer of employment and then process an application for labor certification.
We realize this is very difficult for most people, and it requires a lot of effort on your part. However, unless Congress does something to legalize long term residents of the US, there is really no other option available. Good luck.
