Passport needed for interview?

Immigration Links - Immigration Forum: Naturalization/Citizenship: Passport needed for interview?
By Anonymous on Thursday, March 8, 2001 - 10:00 am:

Hello, does INS require that I bring a current passport to my naturalization interview? As a follow-up question, if my passport expires before the interview, does INS require me to get a new one from my home country before I go to the interview?

Dear Anonymous:

There is no requirement that you bring any passport to your naturalization interview. However, if you have a passport, even if it is expired, it is a good idea to bring it because Immigration wants to see if you have been living outside of the US for extended periods of time, (which would cause a problem with your application) and a passport will give some indication of that fact. Good luck.
