101(a)(15)(A) - (V) - Nonimmigrant Classifications

Non-immigrants constitute the largest group of people admitted to the United States each year. They are divided into 23 (twenty-three) status categories and there is an additional special purpose category for NATO personnel, which will not be discussed on our website. A non-immigrant's status determines what type of activity s/he may engage in when in the United States. The main categories are given letter designations which are associated with the alphabetical organization of INA ยง 101(a)(15).
