AILA Addresses Implications of the Events in New York

September 12, 2001

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is attempting to seek out answers from the relevant government agencies on how certain issues raised by the events of September 11 and their aftermath will affect client issues.  Questions related to whether a matter will be considered "timely filed" if the INS, EOIR, DOL or SESA filing deadline was missed because of the lack of mail or courier service or because the attorney or client office was directly impacted, or the treatment of I-485 derivatives whose principals were killed in yesterday's horrors, are among the many being explored now.

We appreciate all of the efforts of AILA during this time of crisis, and we will keep you informed of any future developments regarding the above issues.
