Supreme Court Decision on Detention of Criminal Aliens April 29, 2003 The US Supreme Court, overturning the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, declares that criminal lawful permanent residents can be detained pursuant to INA §236(c) without individual bond hearing. The Court, however, also held that §236(e) does not preclude habeas review
