Introduction to
Electronic Filing (E-Filing) BCIS Forms
May 29, 2003
Customers have the option of filing BCIS Form I-90, Application to
Replace Permanent Resident Card, and Form I-765, Application for
Employment Authorization (along with Form G-28, Notice of Entry of
Appearance as Attorney or Representative) online using the Internet. As
additional BCIS forms are available for E-Filing, you will be able to
access them from this page.
E-Filing allows customers, or their representatives, to complete and
file an application when it's convenient for them -- 24 hours a day, 7
days a week. Customers can schedule an appointment to visit an
Application Support Center at a time that's convenient to them for
collection of a digital photograph, signature, and fingerprint. No more
standing in line to file at an office or mailing an application and
waiting for confirmation that it was received. Not only will this new
way of doing business improve service to BCIS' customers, it will
facilitate processing within the BCIS.
Before Completing the Application
- To electronically file your application in the quickest and most
effective manner, please be sure you have:
Adobe
Acrobat Reader version 5
Netscape 4.7 or higher, or Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher
A printer to print your application and Confirmation Receipt
notice
A checking or savings account from which to electronically
transfer U.S. funds for fee payment. Fees cannot
be paid by credit card or debit card.
Some applicants, because of their status, may not be able to e-file
their application. Review the form's E-filing Instructions and
Eligibility Requirements before proceeding.
If you live outside the United States, you cannot file
electronically.
If you are applying for a waiver of the filing fee, you cannot file
electronically.
Please read the form's E-Filing Instructions and
Eligibility Information for the application you intend to complete
before attempting to E-File; you may wish to print out a copy of the
instructions for easy reference during your E-Filing session.
Your E-Filing session may "timeout" after 15 minutes of
inactivity. You cannot save an incomplete application.
We encourage you to have all the information you will need to
complete your application at hand:
- Bank account information
- A number (if applicable)
- Form I-94 number (if applicable)
- Most recent dates and port of entry into the U.S.
Completing the Application
- You should completely fill in all of the required fields before
electronically submitting your application and payment. Failure to
fill out the application completely may result in delays in the
processing of your application. If all of the required fields are
not filled out, you will be prompted to do so before the submission
process is complete.
- Please check your information carefully; use your full legal name
when completing your application.
- You must certify the validity of your application and pay any
application fee(s).
- You must ensure your fee payment information is correct.
- Currently, payments can only be processed if you or a
representative have an existing account balance with a financial
banking institution. This can be a personal or business checking or
savings account.
After Submitting Your Application
- You should print (and sign) at least one copy of your
completed application and the Confirmation Receipt notice for your
records. The Confirmation Receipt notice will contain a
Receipt Number associated with your application. Your application
will then be sent electronically to the appropriate BCIS location
for processing. You will receive an official Receipt Notice (Form
I-797) from that office, which will include the same Receipt Number
as is shown on your Confirmation Receipt notice.
- You may want to save your completed application and Confirmation
Receipt notice electronically on your computer’s hard drive or on
a floppy disk for further reference. Please do not save your file on
the hard drive of a public-use computer (e.g., at a library)
- You may need to provide documents that support your application.
See the E-Filing Instructions and Eligibility
Requirements for each form for more information. Please mail
this documentation to the address as instructed on your Confirmation
Receipt notice. Attach a copy of the Confirmation Receipt notice to
the documents to help BCIS match the supporting documents/evidence
to your file.
- Follow the instructions on your Confirmation Receipt notice. In
most cases, you will need to call the BCIS National Customer Service
Center at 1-800-375-5283 (TTY 1-800-767-1833) and provide your
Receipt Number to schedule an appointment with your local
Application Support Center. The Application Support Center will
collect a digital photograph, signature, and fingerprints from you
at your appointment. Some Application Support Centers are not able
to collect digital information at this time, and you will be
directed to another location that may be several hours from your
home. Use the list below to help determine if e-filing will be the
best option for you.
- Please bring a copy of your Confirmation Receipt notice with you
to the Application Support Center.
- For applicants e-filing Form I-90: You must bring two copies of
your completed I-90 application, along with a copy of your
Confirmation Receipt notice, to your appointment at the Application
Support Center.
