The Latino and Immigrant Fairness Act

July 26, 2000

On Thursday, July 27, the Senate is expected to take up for debate Senate Bill, S. 2912, the Latino and Immigrant Fairness Act.  While it is not expected that a vote will take place until after Congress returns from recess in September, the debate offers an excellent opportunity to highlight the importance of the bill, which was introduced by Senators Kennedy, Reid, Durbin, and Graham.  The bill would restore Section 245(i), update the registry date to January 1, 1986, and grant NACARA parity status to citizens of Honduras, El Salvador, and Haiti.
